Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, plus more, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, plus more, to taste
- 8 ounces egg noodles
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup small curd cottage cheese
- 1 1/2 cups cheese, shredded, divided into thirds
- 1/4 cup green onions, diced, plus more, to taste, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Spray a 9x13-inch casserole dish with cooking spray.
Step 3 -In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the beef, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease.
Step 4 -Stir the tomato sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, 1/2 teaspoon of the pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of the garlic powder into the beef. Adjust the heat to low and simmer the beef mixture for 5 minutes.
Step 5 -In a large pot of boiling water, cook the egg noodles to al dente, according to the package directions. Drain the noodles.
Step 6 -In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream, the cottage cheese, 1/3 of the shredded cheese, 1/4 cup of the green onions, the salt, the pepper, the garlic powder, and the cooked noodles and stir to combine.
Step 7 -Spread 1/2 of the noodle mixture into the bottom of the prepared casserole dish.
Step 8 -Spread 1/2 of the meat mixture over the noodle mixture and sprinkle with 1/3 of the cheese.
Step 9 -Repeat the layers with the remaining noodle mixture, the remaining meat mixture, and the remaining shredded cheese.
Step 10 -Bake the casserole until the cheese has melted, about 25 minutes.
Step 11 -Sprinkle the casserole with the green onions and serve.
