About
Barbecue chicken is as crucial a part of summer outings as burgers and hot dogs; try firing up the grill without putting on some chicken, and you'll feel you're missing something. And few chicken dishes will turn your cookouts into culinary marvels like Grilled Orange Chicken Skewers. A sweet, sticky, sunny orange glaze that feels like it came straight from your local Asian takeout and grilling it with the savory chicken ensures it becomes a golden caramelized coat you'll want to eat with a spoon. With Grilled Orange Chicken Skewers in hand, your cookout will feel just that more like summer at its finest... and that your grill is performing its job to the fullest!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Maggi® sauce or soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon orange zest, plus 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus more, to taste, for oiling the grill grates
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1/2 tablespoon white pepper, optional
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless, cut into 1 1/2-inch-thick cubes
- 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
Directions
Step 1 -In a medium bowl, combine the Maggi sauce, the orange zest, the orange juice, 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil, the garlic, the white pepper, and the black pepper, stirring until well-combined.
Step 2 -Add the chicken cubes and stir to coat.
Step 3 -Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to overnight.
Step 4 -Lightly brush the grill grates with the extra oil.
Step 5 -Preheat the grill over medium heat.
Step 6 -Remove the chicken from the marinade, reserving the marinade.
Step 7 -Thread the chicken onto soaked wooden skewers or metal skewers (about 6-7 pieces per skewer).
Step 8 -Place the skewers evenly on the grill and cook until the chicken cubes reach 165 degrees F internally, about 8-10 minutes per side.
Step 9 -In a small pot on the stovetop, add the reserved marinade and heat over medium heat until it starts to boil, about 2 minutes.
Step 10 -Add the cornstarch, whisking continually until it is fully dissolved and the sauce begins to thicken.
Step 11 -Transfer the skewers to a plate and serve with the sauce.
